Towner Art Gallery is only a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi ride from Eastbourne train station, and just a few minutes from the seafront. Eastbourne is 35 minutes from Brighton, 40 minutes from Hastings and just 1 hour 30 minutes from London by train.

Directions to the Towner Gallery

There are regular trains to Eastbourne station from London Victoria, London Bridge, Brighton, Bexhill, Hastings and Ashford.

When walking here from the train station follow the signs for “Theatres and Devonshire Park”. Walk to the end of Gildredge Road, then cross over South Street and Furness Road to College Road. Towner Art Gallery is situated at the end of the road on the left, at the junction between College Road and Carlisle Road.

Getting to Towner by bus

The No.3 bus from Eastbourne town centre stops next to the Congress Theatre next door to Towner. The 98 & 99 run from Hastings to Eastbourne. The journey takes approximately an hour and a half.

The 12, 12A, 12X and 13X run from Brighton through Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford to Eastbourne. The closest stop to Towner Art Gallery is at Memorial Roundabout, one stop after the Arndale Shopping Centre. Buses run approximately every 15 minutes and the journey time is around an hour.

Driving to Towner from London

For your satnav use postcode BN21 4JJ

From London take the A23, then the A27 to Eastbourne, A2270 towards the town centre & seafront. At the roundabout on Upperton Road (which the A2270 turns into), take the second exit on to Grove Road.  At the end of Grove Road take a left down South Street; turn right and immediately left on to College Road. Towner Art Gallery is at the end of College Road.

Parking

The car park closest to Towner is currently closed due to the construction work relating to the council’s Devonshire Park Development and is likely to remain closed until 2018.

The pay & display Devonshire Park Car Park on College Rd (in front of the tennis centre) remains available during the development works. Vehicles can temporarily stop and drop off passengers to the side of Towner building on College Road (double yellow lines, so parking not possible).

BY ROAD
Margate winter Gardens is easily accessible from all areas. 

PARKING
Fort Lower Promenade at the rear of the Winter Gardens provides limited parking for events. There are numerous car parks within walking distance. Information on the council run car parks can be found HERE.

BY RAIL
Margate’s Rail station is aprox 15-20 minute walk from the Winter Gardens. There are direct trains to London and frequent services from Folkestone, Dover, Canterbury, Ashford and other Kent locations. Services are provided by Southeastern Railways

ON FOOT
Winter Gardens is located on the Seafront along Fort Crescent – 300 yards up the road from the Turner Contemporary Gallery, and is easily reached from all directions.

BUS

Situated on the North Kent coast, Margate is only a 90 minute drive or train journey (124km) from central London. Canterbury city is only 26km away (a half hour drive or 45 minute bus journey).

Within Margate:
The gallery is approximately 1km along the seafront from Margate train station and close to all main bus routes in the town. The gallery is just a short walk from Margate town centre and the Old Town, where there are a number of artists' studios, galleries and lively cafés and restaurants.

Excellent road links with the M20 and M2 motorways close-by provide easy links from London.

If you're travelling from the continent you can drive straight onto the Eurotunnel train at Calais and in just 35 minutes you'll arrive in Folkestone. From Folkestone it is approximately a 1 hour drive (45km) to Margate on the A20 and A256.

Parking
The gallery only has onsite disabled parking (seven spaces) on the piazza at the front of the gallery. These spaces are signposted. The seafront piazza is for pedestrians and cyclists only and must be kept clear at all times for the RNLI lifeboat in case of emergencies.

There is on-street parking near the gallery (on the Harbour Arm next to the gallery, charges apply), as well as pay and display car parks close by:

By Rail
High speed trains from London St Pancras and Stratford International run every hour and take just 90 minutes.

Mainline trains from London VictoriaCannon StreetCharing Cross and London Bridge, which take a little longer. Victoria offers a frequent service with trains running approximately every half hour.
